Welcome to the web site of the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department. The department was established in 1884 when Union #1 of Mamaroneck & Rye Neck Hook and Ladder Co. #1 was founded and began providing continous fire coverage to the residents of the Village of Mamaroneck and surrounding communities. The department soon began to expand as more individuals began to embrace our shore line community. As the population expanded, the need for a greater firefighting presence was realized and our department began to expand.
More than 130 years later, our department proudly consists of 5 firefighting companies consiting of 4 engine companies , Halstead Manor Engine & Hose (Engine 38), Mamaro Engine & Hose ( Engine 40), Columbia Engine & Hose ( Engine 41), Volunteers Engine & Hose (Engine 42), and Hook & Ladder Co. ( Tower Ladder 20 & Ladder 21). These companies are manned by a 100% volunteer membership consisting of both men and women who have received extensive training in both firefighting and rescue operations. These men and women are the lifeblood of our organization and possess a dedication to duty 24 hours per day/7 days a week. During the warmer months, the department is also responsible for maintaining and operating our Marine Division(Marine 2). The marine division will respond to any emergencies where life and property are in danger either on the open water or on the shore line where making access to certain areas by traditional means may be prohibited or compromised.
The department is proud to have the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary amongst our ranks. The ladies auxilliary have been in existance for more than 90 years and play an integral role in allowng our department to be the success it is. Members of the ladies auxiliary have always been there to back up the department when asked in a variety of functions and are considered a welcome asset.
As any department is dependant on its volunteers we are truly lucky to have one of the best Junior Fire Departments in the state. Our junior fire department, more commonly known as the "Post 444" is part of the Boy Scouts of America Venture program. These "Jr." members who are between the ages of 14 and 18 are overseen by senior members of the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department and receive regular training in the firefighting sciences as well as search and rescue, and medical emergencies. These young men and women are the future of our department and we are proud of the commitment and enthusiasm they bring on a daily basis.
Thank you for visting and taking the time to learn who we are!
